Eyeliner
For centuries people have used cosmetics to enhance or decorate the human figure for aesthetic or religious purposes. Men and women alike painted kohl around their eyes to make them look larger as well as to protect them from the evil eye.
Eyeliner was first used in Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia as a dark black line around the eyes. As early as 10,000 BCE, Dyes and paints were used to color the skin, body and hair. They rouged their lips and cheeks, stained their nails with henna, and lined their eyes and eyebrows heavily with kohl. Kohl was a dark-colored powder made of crushed antimony, burnt almonds, lead, oxidized copper, ochre, ash, malachite, chrysocolla (a blue-green copper ore) or any combination thereof. It was applied with a small stick. The upper and lower eyelids were painted in a line that extended to the sides of the face for an almond effect. In addition to reducing sun glare, it was believed that kohl eyeliner could restore poor eyesight and reduce eye infection.
I bet if the ancient egyptians had permanent makeup they would have been crazy about it. Permanent makeup eyeliner can give you the same effect as kohl pencil, but it’s completely natural looking, doesn’t smudge and doesn’t have to be reapplied like makeup.
How popular is permanent makeup eyeliner?
“It is very popular. Because it is so natural. People don’t realize how natural it looks and how it frames the face, so when people come in and say “Oh no, I wouldn’t want eyeliner”, and I say, I know what you mean neither would I, but look at my eyeliner, you don’t even see that I have eyeliner, and once I draw it in for them they say Wow!Nine times out of ten they can’t believe that this is eyeliner, they imagine eyeliner to be quite different to eyeliner that frames the eyes. They can have it done thicker, but the natural line just frames the eyes and that makes a big difference.” (Jameson Cummins)
